The crossing of the Baie des Chaleurs is an open water event linking Miguasha Beach in Quebec (Nouvelle) to Charlo Beach in NB (Baie des Hérons).
The crossing is 9.5km long.
Less demanding distances are also present, namely the 1km and the 3km.
The departure for the crossing takes place right next to the Miguasha cliff, a place where countless fossils were found, including the first animal to have made the transition between the aquatic world and the terrestrial world.
The first part of the event is done with the help of currents which take you from the estuary of the Restigouche River to Baie-des-Chaleurs. Discovered by Jacques Cartier during his first trip in 1534, the Baie-of-Chaleurs is among the most beautiful bays in the world. You will begin the event with the Miguasha Point and the majestic Mount St-Joseph to your left. You will have the Bon Ami rocks in clear view until you go around them before gradually seeing Charlo beach approaching.
A different experience on an impressive body of water and certainly less monotonous than traditional lake events. Moreover, after finishing, there is no need for modesty, because after all, it is two provinces that you will have connected. Swimming in open water is a challenge. But in salt water, it defines you as formidable.
